Dangmei Grace and Sabitra continue sizzling as Sethu FC drub SSB; sets up exciting final clash with Manipur Police
A hat-trick from Dangmei Grace and a four-goal game from Sabitra Bhandari helped Sethu FC cruise to an 8-1 victory over SSB Central Women's Football Club and put them through to the Wednesday's final.
Sethu hit four before the break
The team from Tamil Nadu lined up with a mix of experienced and young players, with both Ratanbala Devi and Dangmei Grace looking lively in the attacking third early on - the latter opening up the scoring after some neat play saw - Sandhiya cut inside and released Ratanbala Devi. The midfieldertrapped the ball in front of and Grace lashed the opener into the bottom corer just 13 minutes.
As the half tipped past the midway point, SSB were not offering anything in attack, though could take solace from a solid defensive effort. Meanwhile, Sethu dominated possession, seeing plenty of the ball in their opponent defensive third, Dangmei Grace latched a perfect ball from the right, as Sabitra Bhandari made no mistake to score her 1oth goal of the tournament.
Moments later, Sumithra did some neat footwork before releasing Grace who fired in from the right to bulge the net and make it a massive lead for Sethu before the break.
Sethu continue to score in bursts
The Madurai outfit began to gain more influence in the attacking third afterthe break and they were soon able to forge fourth goal through Grace, as she clinically finishes off another swift counter-attack to grab her hat-trick.
Sethu have an abundant of talent going forward and they soon struck again.A quickly taken corner and Ashalata picked the ball up in space and sent a beautiful through ball at the far post which was headed into post by Sabitra.
The Samba show
Sethu continued to come forward with wave after wave of attack, as they seemed determined to rack up as many goals as possible. Ratanbala quick footwork and neat skills on the flank and sends in a low crow, which fell straight into the path of Sabitra who finish-off from close range flash into the net with style to complete her own hat-trick.
SSB got a goal of their own, albeit a very slim and meaningless consolation, from Dular Marandi before Ratanbala soon soars up the other side of the pitch to restore Sethu FC's 6-goal-lead.
In the 90th minute, it was 8-1. Sabitra was quickest to pounce, making no mistake with a calm finish from a few yards out. That capped off the scoringand a fine Sethu performance. The scoreline might be staggering but the damage had been done and Sethu sent out a defining message to Manipur ahead of an intriguing final of Wednesday.
